This morning, we had our 20 week ultrasound.  Before I reveal the gender, I’ll tell you that everything looks great!  Baby is measuring at about 22 weeks, but our midwife isn’t worried about it and didn’t change the “due” date (praise the Lord!).  Everything else looked great.  Heart, kidneys, brain, stomach…all normal.  🙂  I’m not a huge worrier, but I will say that I hold my breath a tiny bit before these ultrasounds hoping everything will look good.  And it did!

So…I’ve seen several people do the gender predictor wives’ tale tests and we did a few before the ultrasound, just for fun!  Here are the results.

Baby’s Heart Rate: If baby’s heart rate is above 140, it’s a girl

String with wedding band tied on: Hold it over your belly.  If it swings back and forth, it’s a girl, if it swings in a circle, it’s a boy.

Key test: Pick up a key.  If you pick it up by the top, it’s a boy, if you pick it up by the bottom, it’s a girl.

Mayan Gender Predictor: Look at the mother’s age at conception and the year of conception.  If both are odd or even, it’s a girl.  If they’re different, it’s a boy.

Chinese Gender Predictor:

Is your acne worse while pregnant?  If so, it’s a girl.  If not, it’s a boy.

Are you craving salty or sweet?  Salty=boy, sweet=girl.

The whites of the eye test: Pull down the skin under your left eye.  If you see a “v” or branches, you’re having a girl.

Child’s first word: If your previous child’s first word was “mama”, it’s a girl.  If it was “dada”, it’s a boy.

Leg test: If your legs are staying in shape, it’s a girl.  If not, it’s a boy.

Mood swings:  If you’re more moody than normal, it’s a girl.

Are you clumsy or graceful: If you’re more clumsy while pregnant, it’s a boy.  If you’re more graceful, it’s a girl.

Do you prefer to lie on your right or lefts side? Right for girl, left for boy.

The “Show me your hands” test: If you show the backs of your hands, it’s a boy.  If you show your palms, it’s a girl.

Is daddy gaining weight? If so, it’s a girl.  If not, it’s a boy.

Necklace test: Have someone hold a necklace over your hand.  If it swings back and forth, it’s a boy.  If it swings in a circle, it’s a girl.

What do YOU think you’re having: If you think boy, it’s a boy.  If you think girl, it’s a girl.

Morning sickness/nausea: Is it really bad?  If so, it’s a girl!

Are you craving protein (meat, cheese)?: If so, it’s a boy.  If not, it’s a girl.

Are your feet colder now that you’re pregnant? If so, it’s a boy!

Is the hair on your legs growing faster than normal? If so, it’s a boy!

So that’s 10 points for boy and 14 for girl.  But my intuition was the biggest thing I looked at.  The girls were both guessing (read: hoping) girl, but I was pretty sure it was a boy.  This pregnancy has been SO much different than my other two!

And guess what?  Mama was right!  We’ll be welcoming Baby D into our family sometime in late January or early February.

So…let the boy shopping begin!!
