Yesterday, on Work in Progress Wednesday, I told you that I was working on something to share with you today.  Well, it’s here!  I’m excited to tell you that I’ve put together an easy crochet scarf pattern that anyone can make…even if you’ve NEVER crocheted before!  If you’ve been wanting to learn to crochet, this is a great place to start!  Just watch the video below and you’re set!

Learning to crochet? This easy crochet scarf pattern is the perfect starting project!

(Disclaimer: I had to make this video twice and I’ve had VERY little sleep for the past three, four, ten, thousand nights.  I can’t think of the right words half the time and I keep calling the hook a needle.  It’s not a needle.  I don’t knit.  Sorry about that.)

Easy Crochet Scarf Pattern

To make this scarf, you’ll need two skeins of chunky yarn and a size 6.0/J.  I’m sorry, I don’t know the exact type or weight of yarn I used for this.  It was in an unlabeled grab bag at JoAnn’s.  🙂

Chain until your chain is about 14 yards long.  Fasten off.

Holding two strands together, chain until you have a chain about 6 yards long.

Tie your two chain strands together so you have one giant chain hoop.  Weave in the ends.

Then, essentially, you’re done!  Wrap your circle around and around and you’ve got your scarf.

To make the fastener:

(If you don’t know how to crochet, you can simply make a short chain and tie it off, then wrap it around your scarf and tie it.)

Chain 23

Row 1: Starting in the second chain from the hook, sc across, ch 1, turn (22 sc)

Row 3: Sc across, ch 1, turn (22 sc)

Row 4: Sc 18, ch 3, skip 3, sc 1, ch 1, turn

Row 5: Sc 1, 3 sc in chain spaces (buttonhole created), sc 18, ch 1, turn

Row 6: Sc across, fasten off (22 sc)

Sew on button and attach to your scarf.

And that’s it!  An easy crochet scarf you can make in under an hour if you’re an avid crocheter and  that will help you become an expert chain maker if you’ve never crocheted before!
