Crystal does several different crafts and does them all very well. I greatly enjoyed exploring her site, Marching North.
My Favorite Projects from Marching North
Like I said before, there is such a fun variety of project ideas on the Marching North blog. I really had a hard time narrowing it town! I’ve chosen my top three favorites to share with you today.
I would really love to learn macrame. It’s such a nostalgic craft to me. I remember plants hanging from macrame hangers as a kid. I don’t so much love the old orange color, but I DO love this white DIY macrame bag! The tutorial on Marching North is really well done as well. Makes it look like something I can definitely do!
This iron-on sign is strangely appropriate for this time. Though the post was published last November, it’s like she knew most of the United States would be under a stay-at-home order soon. Anyway, it’s super cute and is SUCH a great tutorial on how to apply HTV on wood.
The third project I’ve chose to highlight is this ADORABLE Rainbow Easter Bonnet Hat. The colors on this hat and the style are unique and super darling! Any little girl would love wearing this on cool spring days!
Crafter Interview
I asked Crystal to share about her crafts, her family, her life…with all of you! Join me as I learn more about this talented crafter!
What is your main craft or crafts?
At the moment mostly punch needle embroidery, Cricut Maker crafts, and crochet, but I also have a few leather craft posts and a very popular wood-burning post. I’m working on several DIY home decor posts right now and I’m always trying new crafts so the list is growing!
Tell me about yourself and/or your family.
My name is Crystal and I’m a wife and stay at home mom to three kids ages 9, 6, and 22 months. We homeschool so my days are super busy between that, keeping the house out of total disarray and blogging!
How long have you been doing these specific crafts?
I have been crafting for as long as I can remember. Crochet was my first real hobby and I started that when I first met my husband which was the year after I graduated high school. I got into leatherwork about five or six years ago and briefly had a business selling knife sheaths and tooled holsters (not really my personal style but it was in demand in the small southern town where we lived at the time) and I learned a ton doing that. Last year I got my Cricut Maker and I learned about punch needle and I’ve been hooked on both ever since.
Why do you do your craft?
I can’t not do it. If I go too long without being creative I’m miserable. Blogging about crafts has been awesome because I can kind of bounce around to different crafts and there’s a purpose behind it. I’ve tried making and selling crafts in the past, and I think it can be a great source of income, but I personally can’t stand making the same thing over and over again, my ADHD can’t handle it, lol.
How did you learn your craft?
I struggled with learning how to crochet for a long time as a teen. I would get those books at the store with written instructions and I just could not wrap my head around it. Finally, I came across videos on the internet a few years later (when that was becoming a thing) and it was a game-changer. I’m hoping to help others in the same way with my blog and YouTube channel.
What are your can’t-live-without craft essentials?
All the yarn. Plus punch needles, crochet hooks, my Cricut Maker and leather. Seriously though, my yarn stash has been out of control for years, lol.
When do you feel the most creative?
At night. I tend to stay up super late and work on crafts. It’s hard for me to focus during the day when there are so many things that need to be done.
What is your favorite quote about creativity?
“If I don’t create I’ll just die.” -from the movie Eagle vs. Shark.
