There’s nothing better in the fall than a warm apple crisp straight from the oven.  Unless you add a little ice cream on the side.  The house smells amazing and the baked apples are so delicious!  We’ve had an abundance of apples this year, so a couple weeks ago, I made two apple crisps, one for a church potluck and one to go in the freezer.  Well, we never even got to taste the one that went to the potluck.  It got gobbled up before we made it to the desert line!  So yesterday, we pulled out the second one from the freezer and baked it.  It. Was. Delicious!  So today, I’m sharing the recipe for this amazing apple crisp with you!  Go ahead…double it and freeze one…you’re gonna want it later!

Mmmmm... I LOVE a good apple crisp and this one is delicious!! | candleinthenight.com

Amazing Apple Crisp

Filling:
6 cups tart apples, cored, peeled, and sliced
3/4 cup sugar
1 Tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/3 cup water

Topping:
3/4 cup quick cooking oats
3/4 cup flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup butter

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9×13 baking dish.

Place sliced apples in baking dish.  Mix sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a bowl and pour evenly over apples.  Pour water over all.

In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and baking soda.  Cut in butter with a fork or pastry cutter.  (I like to do this step all in the food processor.  It’s quick and easy and you get a nice, crumbly mixture!)

Pour topping over apples.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes.

To freeze, wrap tightly with plastic wrap.  Set out an hour before baking.  Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
