When it comes to homeschooling, there are some definite perks. One of them is using games that promote learning during school time or in the evenings to teach different concepts. Today, I’m going to be sharing ten different games you can use with your kids to teach ten different concepts. The best thing about these ten games is that they weren’t CREATED to be learning games. They were created to just be fun games, but in the right setting, many of them can even be used in place of flash cards to learn certain skills.
10 Games that Promote Learning that are Fun for the Whole Family
Memory: This is a great beginning game for your preschoolers. It teaches concentration, builds attention span, and gives kids skills they can build on to learn other great family games!
Uno: This one is pretty basic math, but my three year old couldn’t identify numbers when her daddy started teaching her how to play Uno. She can now identify numbers 1-9 with no problem. Uno would also be a good game for teaching colors with a child struggling with that.
Dominoes: Dominoes are also great for young students. Counting dots and matching colors is a perfect skill for little ones while still being lots of fun for the older ones!

Yahtzee: Yahtzee is great for helping kids practice their math skills. Adding and multiplying are both used in this fun family game!
Monopoly: Monopoly teaches all kinds of things from adding and subtracting money to strategizing purchases. The skill set acquired in this game can ultimately be used in real life.
Chess: Chess is a game that’s fairy easy to learn, but there is almost no limit to the amount of strategy and creativity that can be built throughout years of playing. My brother was playing chess as a five year old and my husband, who is 30-something still enjoys chess now!
Scrabble: Scrabble is great for teaching spelling, developing vocabulary, and creative thinking. It also teaches math as your child adds their points as they go!
Syzygy: Syzygy is a timed game similar to scrabble that also teaches spelling and strategy. It’s a faster paced game than Scrabble, but still a great word game.
Ticket to Ride: This has become one of our favorite games! Ticket to Ride teaches geography and strategizing skills as you lay your tracks across the United States from city to city. Once your family has mastered the U.S., you can purchase Ticket to Ride Europe, Asia, etc.
Taboo: This is a great family game for older kids. It not only teaches kids to use uncommon vocabulary, but also helps with speaking in front of crowds. It’s one of our family’s favorites!

(Another “best thing” about these games is that most of them have been around for a really long time! That means you can find them at thrift stores and garage sales for super cheap! Our Memory game box still has the $0.25 sticker on it!!)
My younger ones LOVE Uno and Memory (We have an I Spy version). I’m glad to see another recommendation for Ticket to Tide since we’re considering that one. Quirkle is a favorite with my middle son.
Yes, we LOVE Ticket to Ride! My husband and I play it together since our girls are still to young. I’ve never played Quirkle. We’ll have to check it out!
