Easter Crafts for Kids: Finger Paint Cross

Out of the three Easter crafts we’ve done in the last few days, this one was the easiest!  It’s simple and fun for the kids and although it’s messy, it’s a fairly quick project.  The inspiration for this project is, on the other hand, not quick.  For that reason, I didn’t even show the girls the inspiration picture.  I knew they wouldn’t be able to replicate it and would get frustrated trying, so I simplified the project for them.

Easter Crafts for Kids: Cross at Sunrise

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Supplies:

• Printer paper or watercolor paper
• Painters tape or masking tape (only use the masking tape if you’re using watercolor paper.  It could easily tear the printer paper.)
• Paints (For this project, I gave my girls choices of the three color groups.  They could either have red, blue, and purple, blue, yellow, and green, or red, yellow, and orange.  That way they could mix at will and still end up with pretty colors.)

Preparation instructions:

• Cut two pieces of tape, a long and a short.  Place tape on paper to form a cross.

Step by step instructions:

• Give your child their paints on a sheet of newspaper or a paper plate.
• Let them at it!  One thing you want to make sure is that all the edges of the tape are touching paint.  As you can see, the right side of the cross on the right didn’t get completely covered, so it just kind of fades away.  I kind of like it on M’s since it’s just a little bit, but if there’s too much like that, you won’t be able to tell that it’s a cross.
• When your child is finished, gently pull the tape off.  You may have to use a fingernail to get the edge which means, yes, you’ll get paint on you.  It’ll give you an excuse to redo your nails, right?

You can see here that M ended up handprint painting instead of finger painting. I really like how hers turned out!
