Skirt Summer

I was in the thrift store the other day looking at the womens denim skirts.  Why?  Well…I’m going for a change this summer.

Wearing Skirts Every Day

I have friends who wear skirts all the time.  One of my good friends from church is Caroline over at The Modest Mom.  She owns a feminine clothing company called Deborah & Co. that sells modest skirts and she’s known for wearing skirts all the time.

A few of my friends feel that pants are immodest and unfeminine.  I don’t share this view (not 100% anyway), so why would I go for a skirt summer?  Well, this is why.

Why I’m Going to Try Wearing a Skirt Every Day

I just had a baby and…I can’t squeeze myself into most of my pants.  I’m too cheap to go buy all new jeans, capri’s and shorts, so I’m giving skirts a try.

What’s so great about skirts?

  • They’re comfortable: This is a new realization for me, but they really are.  Especially since my jeans are so tight.  🙂
  • They’re cheaper: While shopping at thrift stores, I’ve found that I can get a skirt cheaper than a pair of jeans.  This is most likely because the demand is lower which is just fine with me!

This is a skirt I found at a thrift store for $5!! I love how pretty and spring-y it is and also…how inexpensive it was!  Also pictured: My mommy tummy.  Working on getting rid of that this summer too.
  • They’re fun!: I’ve picked up several skirts in bright colors and I can’t wait to start wearing them!
  • They’re cool: Missouri summers can get hot.  Very hot.  Jeans and shorts cling to the legs and get really sticky and yucky feeling.  Skirts let the breeze in and are more comfortable to wear in the heat.
  • I already have several I can fit into: With many skirts having elastic somewhere in the waistband, I’m good to go!

This is also just kind of an experiment for me.  Can I make it the whole summer in just my skirts?  Will I end up liking it better than wearing pants?  We’ll find out!  I’m going to start May 1st and go through the end of August.  My *only* exception will be if we get a cold day in May.  Be watching the blog for updates on how it’s going and how I like being a “skirt girl”.

I also wanted to share today that I’m so excited to be an affiliate this year for the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle.  I ordered last year’s bundle and have enjoyed reading and learning from the books so much!  I’m looking forward to this year’s bundle as well.  The bundle will be available for sale tomorrow and I can’t wait to see how it blesses you!  Check it out!

This sounds like a fun skirt wearing adventure! I tend to wear lots of skirts/dresses in the summer because it is much easier to find modest skirts that I like than modest and yet age appropriate (I’m in my 20s w/ no children) shorts. I also totally agree with you on the cheaper thing! Budget is one of the major reasons I enjoy wearing skirts. I can typically thrift them much more easily and less expensively than pants, plus most of my skirts and dresses can easily be carried into multiple seasons.
