If you haven’t figured it out by now, fall is my favorite season. I love the colors, the smells, and the sights. Every year, I love coming up with activities for my children and me to do together. Over the past week, I’ve been eagerly reading books from the library trying to find the cream of the crop of fall books for preschoolers. That’s what I have for you today. A list of the best books to read to your preschooler this fall. They were all available at my local library and I encourage you to check yours as well and enjoy reading to your child.
Fall Books to Read to Your Preschooler
The Little Yellow Leaf: This book with beautiful, interesting illustrations is about a little leaf, clinging to the tree, feeling all alone. Then one day, he realizes he isn’t alone after all! So sweet!
My Happy Pumpkin: If you’re a family who celebrates Halloween, or even if you’re not, this is a great book for you! It talks about how when you get a pumpkin, scoop out the yucky insides, carve a smile, and put in a light, it’s like what Jesus does for us. He takes out all our garbage and puts His light inside of us to shine into the darkness. We don’t celebrate Halloween, but since the kids do see jack-o-lanterns around, this book gives them something positive to focus on.
Thanksgiving Books to Read to Your Preschooler
Thanks for Thanksgiving: This is a sweet book with cute illustrations. It’s basically a list of things kids would be thankful for and would be a great book to spark conversations about what your child is thankful for.
The Littlest Pilgrim: This is a super-cute book about a little pilgrim named Mini (I know, right?? Too cute!!). Mini wants to help her family, but is too little. She learns at the end that even though she’s too little to help, she’s not too little to make a friend. The Littlest Pilgrim is a great book about being helpful and sharing.
The Night Before Thanksgiving: This is a cute little book inspired by Twas the Night Before Christmas. It describes some of the crazy things that go on in preparation for Thanksgiving dinner and the fun that is had with family.
The Very First Thanksgiving Day: This book is the story of the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving told in cumulative rhyme. The illustrations are really beautiful. Be aware that you may need to explain some of the Pilgrim’s hardships to your child as they are mentioned in this book.
I hope this list gives you a good kicking off point for your fall reading! Remember, reading to your child is the best way to help them learn at an early age. And who doesn’t love reading good, well written books?
