In our home, we love music. We especially love Christian music. I was raised in a home where contemporary Christian music was played almost continually and I knew I wanted the same for my home.
As I’ve “aged”, my tastes have changed a little bit. I still love Christian music, but I’d say I prefer more calming music. I have enough crazy in my life with three children three and under. I want the music I listen to me to soothe my soul. Usually, the only time I listen to the more upbeat contemporary Christian music is when I’m working out or cleaning. Sometimes you just need to be in an upbeat mood!
There are two things that I really love that I wanted to share with you. Pandora and Chromecast. With these two nifty things, I have sweet, calming worship music online playing in my home almost daily. I have the Pandora app on my phone which I have hooked up to play through the Chromecast. I usually turn on the music during nap time (simply because I don’t get to it before then) and keep it playing until dinnertime.
There are several things I’ve noticed since starting this routine.
- I’m more calm. I don’t snap at my children as easily when I have a song praising Jesus on my heart.
- My children are more calm. Instead of whining and complaining, they’re listening to the music playing.
- I’m in a better mood. Most of the songs that play on my station are encouraging which helps keep me upbeat.
- I get more done. When it’s quiet in the house, it’s easy to get bored and spend time on facebook or browsing the internet. When there is music playing, it gives me something to do while I’m getting housework accomplished.
My very favorite Pandora station is “Michael Card” radio. I get all my favorites (Michael Card, Andrew Peterson, Fernando Ortega…) along with new Christian musicians I may not have heard of. I love it!
How about you? Do you try to have Christian music playing in your home daily?

I’ve got to learn how to use this technology that I have!!!
I have ways of listening to music, but want to learn more.
I love this post!! Yes – I have also noticed that playing music…particularly Christian music…has a profound effect on my family and me.
I have just recently come upon Julie True’s music as suggested by my Pastor’s wife. It’s like a soft heaven sound that really keeps my house in a peaceful state… check it out: http://www.julietrue.com/ and you get to sample every single song on every single album of hers so you can know if you like it or not. My husband and I love these albums. We actually play the Healing Love album all night long in our bedroom on a very low volume. ENJOY!
Thanks for sharing! Her music is very beautiful!
