Indoor Bubbles

It’s cold here in the midwest and we’re stuck inside most of the time.  Finding activities to keep the kids occupied (and from fighting with each other) can be a struggle.  Today, I’m sharing one of our favorite activities.  Indoor bubbles!

There are a few ways to do this activity.  Your indoor bubbles can be a bath time activity, you can use them to clean your kitchen floors, or you can put down a tablecloth and keep the bubbles contained.  We chose to clean the kitchen floor!

What You’ll Need for Indoor Bubbles

  • A small cup
  • A straw
  • A tablespoon of Dawn dish soap
  • 1/2 cup of water

Place the water in the cup.  The pour in the soap (I just gave it a good squirt, not an exact measure) Put the straw in the cup and gently mix.  Then, blow into the straw.

You might want to demonstrate this to your children first so they’ll know exactly what they’re supposed to do.  Also, be sure to make it very clear that they should be blowing not sucking!  That soapy water tastes nasty!

This is a fun activity for the kids to do on their own.  If you let them, they’ll find their own fun ways to play with the bubbles.  You may end up with bubbles all over, but hey, that’s the point isn’t it?  It’s also fun to give your kids ideas about how to blow the bubbles.  Have them blow slowly or fast, hard or soft…  You could even have a contest to see who could get the longest trail of bubbles!

And that’s it!  I love this activity because it’s simple, easy to set up, and if you just wipe up the mess, you end up with a cleaner house afterwards than before!  These indoor bubbles are great for keeping kids having fun on days when it's too icky to go outside! | candleinthenight.com

Very cool! I never thought of doing it to clean the floors, even though I used shaving cream painting to clean tables! Is the solution a little strong for floors? Do you rinse with more water?

Yes, I did have to add more water. 🙂
