Use these printable Easter bookmarks to help keep the focus on Jesus this Easter!
The resurrection of Jesus Christ. It’s the defining point of Christianity. The one event that made Jesus more than a “good teacher” or a martyr. In the Christian world, we celebrate this event each spring by rejoicing in the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. And yet somehow, the day has become wrapped up in bunnies, chocolates, and eggs. As fun as these things can be, our joy and the joy we want to pass along to our children should come from Jesus alone.

How do we keep Jesus at the center of the Easter holiday?
It’s not easy to keep the focus on Jesus when the world is constantly trying to pull our attention away. This is true every day, but it seems especially true on the holidays when we should be celebrating Jesus. We, as Christians, must make a conscious effort to take the focus off our ourselves and keep it on Jesus Christ, the reason we celebrate.
I’ve created these printable Easter bookmarks as a starting point, but it really goes further than that.
Here are ten tips for making Jesus the focus this Easter.
- Start the day right. Go to a sunrise service or read the resurrection story at home. One of my fondest memories was when I was a child and it rained Easter morning. We normally went to an outdoor sunrise service, but it wasn’t going to happen this year. My mom dressed up as Mary with a blanket on her head and woke my sister and I up by acting out the story. We went “to the tomb” and found cloths, but no body. Acting out the story in that simple way stuck with me all these years.
- Make Resurrection Rolls. This idea has been around for a while now and we finally gave it a try last year. It was so, so cool! You take a marshmallow (white symbolizes Jesus’ perfect life), roll it in butter and cinnamon (symbolizes the cloths they wrapped Jesus in after he died), wrap it in crescent roll dough (symbolizes the tomb), and bake it. When it’s done, you open the roll and it’s empty, just like the tomb! You can get the exact recipe here and trust me, this one is worth your time! Your kids will be amazed!
- Go to church. This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s not for everyone. If you’re not someone who normally goes to church on Sunday morning, find a congregation that you can attend. Many churches have special services with lots of music and worship on Easter Sunday morning, so if listening to a sermon isn’t something you’re comfortable with, you don’t necessarily have to do that. Reach out to friends and ask for recommendations.
- Do your egg hunts on Saturday. There is really no reason to spend Easter Sunday doing egg hunts and putting the kids in the “gimme, gimme, gimme” mode. There are lots of places that do egg hunts on Saturday now, so if that’s your thing, maybe try doing it on a different day.
- Listen to Music! There are lots of YouTube videos that play songs about Jesus’ resurrection. Play them in the background during the day and sing along if you want. Here are some good choices!
Christ the Lord is Risen Today
Glorious Day
I Will Rise
Amazing Grace
Jesus Paid it All
Alive Forever Amen (a little more jazzy than the rest, but I love it!)
The Old Rugged Cross
Beneath the Cross of Jesus - Give a special gift. You want Easter to stand out as something special for your kids, but not because of the bunny and eggs. Giving your children a gift is not a bad idea, after all, you’re celebrating the BEST gift! Something like a new bookmark with a scripture verse on it, a Bible storybook, a scripture carrying case, a new prayer journal or a cross necklace would be a wonderful gift to commemorate the day.
- Do an Easter craft. Make something with your kids to mark the day. You don’t want it to be a big, messy project, but something simple like these finger paint crosses or these silhouette resurrection crosses would be a perfect craft for Easter Sunday afternoon.
- Get some Resurrection Eggs and use them to tell the Easter story. These can be found at most Christian bookstores and also on Amazon. They’re really neat because they have a little booklet and as your child opens the eggs, you read the story of Easter. Inside each egg is something that goes along with the story. Spoiler Alert: The last egg is empty. Just like the tomb!
- Plant a seed. Nature has a beautiful way of testifying of our Heavenly Father. So many things in nature can relate to Him. When you get your seed to plant, explain to your child that the flower it came from had to die in order for the seed to be able to grow. From that death will come new life, just like how through the death of Jesus, we all can have new life!
- Color these printable Easter bookmarks. I’ve created these free printable bookmarks. They make a great Easter Sunday afternoon activity for the kids or something to give kids in a Sunday School class. They can pick one to color or color them all and give them out as gifts.
I hope this list has helped you in your desire to draw closer to Jesus this Easter. Remember, the holiday really is all about Him and it’s our job as parents to teach that to our children.
