I recently wrote a post about helping older children adjust to having a new baby in the home. One of the suggestions I made was to have new, quiet activities for those older children to do while the baby nursed. Today I want to share with you the first of a series of posts I will be writing about the activities I have for my daughters do while Baby D. is nursing.
I use these drawers to hold the quiet, nursing activities. I picked them up at a garage sale for $2! It was such a steal since they’re more like $40 new. You can use drawers, boxes, baggies, or whatever you have on hand to house these activities.
Quiet Towers
The first nursing drawer activity I have to share is what we call, Quiet Towers. These are great because not only were they inexpensive, they are fun and quiet! The girls can build a huge tower and knock it down without making any noise!
H. not only likes to build, but also make patterns with the different colors or use the blocks to make letters. M likes to line them up and count them. So much fun!
How to Make Quiet Tower Blocks
These were super simple to make. I bought about six packs of sponges and each pack had six sponges. When you first open the packages, the sponges are moist and soft. This is the time to cut them since when they dry, they harden up and are hard to cut. I cut each sponge in thirds. Then, just let dry and enjoy!
Do your children enjoy playing with blocks? Do you think you’d try this project to have a quieter activity?
Check back next week to find out what is in drawer #2!
