I’m loving all the fall crafts for kids we’ve been doing lately! My house is starting to look like fall and I haven’t even got my fall decor out yet (although I should)! Today’s project was making fall trees. I have to say, it wasn’t exactly a favorite. M (3 years) had fun, but her picture doesn’t even resemble a tree. In fact, she was drawing on the paper first and I’m pretty sure she asked if she could glue the yarn to the people. Um…yeah. H (4 years) definitely made hers look like a tree, but she is SUCH a perfectionist, it took her foreeeeeeeeeever. I finally sat down with her and helped her finish because she told me she was bored. So this project? Not a win for our family.
Fall Crafts for Kids: Fall Tree
Preparation time: 1-5 minutes
Project time: ~30-45 minutes
Project cost: $ Low
Parental involvement: Low
Inspiration: Red Leaf Yellow Leaf – Yarn Tree at 3 Dinosaurs
Supplies:
- Printer paper
- Pencil
- Yarn in a few fall colors–about a yard of each
- Scissors
- Brown Crayon
- Glue
- Scrap paper
- Q-tip
Preparation instructions:
- On the printer paper, draw a tree trunk.
- If your child struggles with scissors, cut the yarn into small pieces for them.
Step by step instructions:
- Have your child color the tree trunk brown. Set aside.
- Let your child cut the yarn into small pieces.
- Squirt some glue onto the scrap paper and give the child a q-tip to dip in the glue and spread on their paper.
- Let your child stick the yarn pieces to the glue. I let my girls do this on their own and their personalities just shined through!
