Free Bunny Crochet Pattern

Last spring, I was wanting to crochet something for spring, so I started searching for a free bunny crochet pattern. I searched lots of crochet designer’s blogs to find the *perfect* pattern, but I just couldn’t find one I was in love with.  So…I created one!  And you get to have it…for free!!

This crochet bunny is fairly simple if you’ve made amigurumi in the past. It involves a lot of single crocheting, increasing, and decreasing. But other than that, it’s fairly straightforward. If you’ve never done amigurumi before, here are some tips!

Amigurumi Crochet Tips

• Use a stitch marker to mark your rounds. When you crochet in the round (without joining/chaining up), if you lose count, it can be really difficult to see where the round begins.
• Use a smaller hook than normal. You want your stitches to be nice and tight so the stuffing doesn’t come out, and using a smaller hook makes it easier.
• Count your stitches each round (at least until you’ve had lots of practice). It’s easy to get a little off and that can effect the rest of your project.
• Weaving in ends is easy! Just stuff the tails of the yarn inside the body and you’re good to go!
• Practice, practice, practice! The key to a nicely shaped amigurumi is consistent tension and stitching. That will come with practice!
• Use the invisible decrease. A regular decrease will give you a little bump or gap in your project, but the invisible decrease doesn’t! Here is a great video on how to do the invisible decrease.
• Add features before stuffing. If you’re adding safety eyes or embroidering on features, do that before stuffing the head. Otherwise, you’ll end up unable to add them or pulling through stuffing with your needle and yarn.
• Stuff as you go. It becomes difficult to stuff the body parts once the opening gets very narrow, so it’s best to begin stuffing once you’ve done a few decrease rounds. Then you can finish up when the opening is smaller.

Fuzzy Bunny Crochet Pattern

A note about supplies:

Yarn and hooks. Honestly, I like to experiment with yarn. I’m making this bunny again with a totally different type of yarn and size of hook and I think it’s great! I may make a tiny one with thread someday. Or a giant one with bulky yarn. It’s fun! Have fun with it! But because some of you will ask, for the bunny pictured, I used Wonderful yarn from Ornaghifilati. I love this stuff! It’s an acrylic, wool, mohair mix and it’s soft and beautiful and totally out of my price range except that I got it at a garage sale for $2!!! *Happy dance!* I used a size E hook. For the carrot, I used Red Heart scrubby smoothie yarn. But as you’ll find later, I shouldn’t have. I ended up with a giant carrot. Haha! For the flower, I used Bernat Baby Coordinates. Soft and shiny! I enjoy mixing yarn textures. I think it gives my work personality!
