About a month ago, I received the opportunity to review the DVD, IndoctriNation from Great Commission Films. In IndoctriNation, Colin Gunn, the producer, and his family travel across America in a big, yellow school bus to ask a question. That question is, in America, whose doctrine is being taught in our schools? My husband and I enjoyed watching this movie together and I want to share with you what I learned from watching IndoctriNation and give you my thoughts on the movie.

IndoctriNation: The Movie
To provide you with a little background about the movie, Colin Gunn is a homeschool dad of eight children. He and his wife live in Waco, Texas and he has produced several other movies before this one.
The movie, IndoctriNation explores several issues. The first of these to come up in the movie, and one I found very interesting was the question of why parents are sending their children to public schools. 99% of Christians send their children to public schools and yet, there is no scriptural backing for this. Nowhere in the Bible does it say, “send your child out into the world to receive their schooling”, or “allow the government to teach your children”. So then, the question becomes, is there anything wrong with sending your child to the public schools?
Gunn covers this question as well. When sending our children to public schools, simply based on the statistics, we are sending our children into a world where sexual sin is common, abortions are accepted, drugs are easily accessible, and violence runs rampant. And these things aren’t just in the “bad” schools. They are in EVERY school. Here are just a few of the points made in the movie.
- By then end of fifth grade, most girls will have had boyfriends.
- Almost half of kids have sex by middle school.
- Condoms are distributed in the high schools AND the elementary schools and parents won’t be told.
- Abortions are common among middle school and high school students alike.
- Nearly half of high school students smoke, use alcohol, or use illegal drugs.
- Handguns are a danger that can be found in any school.
Most parents think their child’s school is safe, but these dangers are real and these things can happen to your child.
Some parents suggest that we should send our children to public schools so they can be a witness to the children around them. This simply isn’t a Godly idea. 1 Corinthians 15:33 states, “Do not be deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” Likewise, James 1:26 states, “Pure religion and undefiled belief before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” How can our children maintain good manners and remain undefiled in their belief if we send them day after day into the world?
If we send out evangelists and they become unbelievers, we are not following a Biblical strategy.

I could continue to go on and share more about what I learned from watching IndoctriNation, but I won’t. There are so many other topics discussed in IndoctriNation. Here are just a few.
- How Christian teachers in the public schools handle their faith
- What happens when Christian teachers speak up about their beliefs
- The government’s involvement in public schools
- The founding fathers of the public schools
- The roll of evolution in the downfall of the public schools
IndoctriNation does an excellent job of covering all these topics, but I believe that the single-most important point made in this whole move is this.
Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
The public schools have taken the fear of the Lord out of the system. Without that, how can they even begin to teach your children?
This is a movie you need to watch. Your siblings need to watch it. Your parents need to watch it. Your friends need to watch it. If you live in America, you need to watch this movie. It will change the way you view the public schools and will hopefully drive you to take action for the souls of your children.

Good review, Jessica! Funny — I’ve been watching the movie while I iron for the last couple weeks (I only iron about 20 minutes at a time!) I can’t say I ENJOY the movie — it’s scary and ridiculous all at the same time. But I get a lot from it and I think everyone needs to see it. But they won’t. 🙁
