Indoor Snow Fun…and Learning Too!

This past week, we got a couple inches of snow where I live.  Across the country, people got upwards of 12-20 inches.  And lots of us are expecting more this weekend.  Unfortunately, it was a very, very cold snow.  Wind chills have been dangerously low and the last thing I want to do is send the kids outside to play.  We’ve been sick so much this winter, it just wasn’t going to happen.  But when they saw the snow, of course, they wanted to play in it!  So we decided to have a little bit of indoor snow fun!

Bringing the outside in was perfect for us!

How to Have Indoor Snow Fun!!

All you need is a big container (our baby bath tub was perfect!) and some measuring cups, spoons, and food coloring.

Take your container outside and fill it with snow.  I used a shovel and it was full in no time!

Put it on a hard floor.  We used our kitchen.  Just don’t put it on the carpet…there’s no chance all that snow will stay in the tub.

Give your children scoops and spoons.

Add drops of food coloring and let your children go!

The more they play, the more the colors mix.  If you start with primary colors (red, blue, and yellow), you can talk with your child about mixing colors and creating other colors.  Eventually, you should end up with some orange, purple, and green in the snow too.

My girls played for about an hour without getting bored.  They even built a little snowman!

We ended with a bath since their fingers were cold and they were a bit colorful!

The best part?  There were no wet clothes to clean up afterward!

Yeah, the bathtub worked great!! But really, anything would work. A bucket or a bowl. 🙂
