This spring, we planted a couple little apple trees in our front yard. As we read up on how to take care of them, we learned quite a bit. One of the things we learned was that, in staking them, you want to give them support, but not stake them so tightly that they can’t move in the wind. You see, when a small tree sways in the wind, it’s roots and trunk strengthen so that as a full grown tree, it doesn’t uproot or break in a storm. Today, I watched as a strong storm moved through and those little trees swayed and leaned for all they were worth.

We’re told in scripture that we can understand God and his power by looking at His creation.
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Romans 1:20
As I look at this example of the little trees, I can clearly see how God deals with us, His children. As we are growing, when the storms of life comes, He is ever near us, giving us the support we need. At the same time, He allows us to sway, to lean on Him for support. Through those trials, our roots grow strong, firmly planted, and immovable.

Lean on Him through the trials. Check to see He is there. Sway a little, but know He has not left you alone. And through it all, allow yourself to grow stronger in your faith in Him.
